The local community and visitors to the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park are invited to have their say on proposed upgrades to popular locations in the park.
Thanks to a combined $12.76 million dollar investment from the Victorian Government, the MacKenzie Falls visitor precinct in the park is being revitalised, and access points and trailheads along the 160-kilometre Grampians Peaks Trail upgraded.
Located in the central Grampians, MacKenzie Falls is one of the largest and most spectacular waterfalls in Victoria.
Upgrades to enhance the visitor experience will focus on improved safety and access in the carpark and along trails. This will include improved opportunities for viewing the falls, improved site facilities, and opportunities to interpret Aboriginal cultural and environmental values for the site and surrounding landscape.
The project will build on community consultation and design investigations that were undertaken for MacKenzie Falls in 2017. An ongoing partnership with Traditional Owners, represented by Barengi Gadjin Land Council, Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, and Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation, is also shaping the project.
