MidCoast Council will engage with the wider Wingham community in the near future in relation to the town’s Memorial Pool.
The pool has been closed and un-operational since the May flood event caused severe damage to its structure.
Council’s Director of Liveable Communities, Paul De Szell, said as a starting point the community will need to be consulted on the location of the pool.
“We had previously conducted a community consultation about moving the pool facility some years ago and it was rejected,” he said.
“That was well before the flood, and although that was a 1-in-500-year event, there’s no guarantee it won’t happen again. So that needs to be taken into consideration before any new build can take place as funding is unlikely to be provided to rebuild in the same location.”
