Community urged to take care following heavy rainfall

Griffith City Council is urging residents to take caution in the wet conditions.

Council Utilities crews worked overnight redirecting high volumes of stormwater runoff through the system and will continue to diligently monitor flood waters.

Meanwhile road crews are doing their best to keep an eye on local roads to assess and respond to road safety hazards.

The wet weather has made this more difficult, however signage is being used to help keep you safe on our roads.

Motorists are urged to:

•Drive to the conditions

•Take notice of temporary reduced speed limits and signage telling you to slow down

•Don’t drive through flood water

•Don’t drive around local roads to sightsee as this causes waves which could send water into homes

“I would recommend avoiding unnecessary travel if you can. If not possible, make sure to check the live road conditions before leaving. Never drive through floodwaters,” Director Infrastructure and Operations Phil King said

“Even a small amount of water on the road is extremely dangerous and make potholes harder to see.

“I ask that locals not drive around sightseeing because you could inadvertently create waves which could send water flowing into homes.”
