Community wins in Growing Suburbs Fund

City of Casey is gearing up to start works on major developments for the growing communities in Clyde North, Doveton and Hampton Park, after securing $2.35m in the 2020-21 Growing Suburbs Fund.

Council welcomed the State Government funding announcement, set to boost infrastructure and jobs needed in high-growth areas.

City of Casey Chair of Administrators Ms Noelene Duff PSM welcomed the funding allocations that are set to benefit families of all ages.

“This much-needed funding will enable Council to deliver three key projects including the Olive Road Community Pavilion Redevelopment in Eumemmering, the upgrade of the Strong Drive Children’s Centre in Hampton Park and the new Orana Community Place, Early Years Facility in Clyde North.”

“These projects demonstrate why the Growing Suburbs Fund continues to be a vital piece of the funding that Council requires in order to deliver the types of projects our new communities urgently need.”

The Olive Road Community Pavilion Redevelopment will gain a new lease of life with the transformation of the community pavilion. It will feature multi-purpose meeting spaces, kitchen and changeroom facilities for both the netball and wider community.

“It means a major boost to the local netball teams that have been using the old facilities for generations, and it will be an asset to bring together the Doveton/Eumemmering community for a broad range of activities. Casey Netball Association and Hallam Fire Brigade have been key in supporting this project,” added Ms Duff.

The Strong Drive Children’s Centre Project will upgrade one of the area’s oldest kindergarten buildings in Hampton Park to improve access to maternal and child health and kindergarten services to local families.

The Orana early years project will be delivered in partnership with local developer Balcon Group and link new families in Clyde North to a variety of early years and family services.

“Our youngest residents and their families will now not miss out on family and parenting support programs and playgroups close to home with the Orana early years building,” Ms Duff added.

City of Casey CEO Glenn Patterson echoed his support for the funding towards the three ‘shovel ready’ projects that can now get started.

“Council is working closely to design leading-edge community projects that are needed both now and into the future.”

“In a matter of months, works on projects across the City of Casey will rapidly take place.”

“Construction on the Olive Road Community Pavilion is set to start this November and take approximately 18 months. While works on the Strong Drive Children’s Centre will be timed to minimise disruption to kindergarten children.”

“Immediate works at Clyde North will deliver a portable building designed to provide child and family-friendly spaces. It will serve the community until the permanent infrastructure is in place, when it can then be relocated to another growing area,” Mr Patterson said.
