The Cook Labor Government has rolled out new direct debit payment options for vehicle registrations to help Western Australian households manage their budgets.
The expansion of the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure’s (DTMI) vehicle registration direct debit scheme now includes three, six and 12-month direct debit payment options.
The new options are available to new and existing DoTDirect customers in addition to the current one-month direct debit payment option which has had more than 37,000 vehicles registered since being introduced in 2022.
DTMI has also expanded eligibility for direct debit vehicle registration payments since the introduction of the existing one-month option, making all direct debit payment options available to organisations and heavy vehicles, as well as light vehicles.
Each vehicle registration renewal incurs processing fees, with direct debit and less frequent payments generally resulting in lower annual fees.
Customers will enter into a direct debit agreement with DTMI and their financial institution to enable the payments to be debited from their account.
Under the system, customers will receive a reminder five days prior to a direct debit transaction on their nominated bank account, to ensure they have sufficient funds in their account.

As stated by Transport and Major Infrastructure Minister Rita Saffioti:
“We know Western Australian households are under pressure and providing more payment options for vehicle registrations will give families greater flexibility to manage their budgets.
“These new payment options will make it easier to manage registration costs and help motorists to keep their vehicles registered and on the road.
“A common misconception is that spreading registration payments across the year is more expensive, however all of the direct debit payment options incur less fees than paying a standard renewal every three or six months.”
