Connecting language with science

Questacon is reaching out to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to be part of a special science and language project.

The National Science and Technology Centre’s Science in First Languages project is part of the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages.

Communities and individuals are invited to create a short video that tells a story about science, technology, engineering or maths in an Indigenous language and English.

The project is the result of Elders and scientists identifying the need to bring together traditional and scientific knowledge in two-way learning to help all Australians better understand and care for their world.

It is a collaboration between Questacon, First Languages Australia, the ABC and the Australian Institute for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies.

Questacon will host the videos online and begin to highlight them during National Science Week and will take submissions until Friday 6 December 2019.

The first ten videos submitted and approved will receive a $200 Questacon Shop voucher.
