Connecting Redcliffe seniors with support

Minister for Seniors and Disability Services and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships The Honourable Craig Crawford

Redcliffe seniors will tomorrow (Thursday) attend a booked-out Seniors Expo to connect to discounts and rebates to help them save thousands of dollars in cost-of-living expenses.

Seniors Minister Craig Crawford said locals aged over 65 will get advice on matters from smoke alarms to cost-of-living savings and staying safe from scams.

“We know our concessions and rebates can save seniors thousands of dollars a year to ease cost of living pressures,” Mr Crawford said.

“The Palaszczuk Government is providing more than $725 million in 2022-23 for important concessions and rebates for seniors and other members of the community,” he said.

“This includes electricity, utility bills, rates and health related concessions.”

Redcliffe MP Yvette D’Ath said the Palaszczuk Government also supported older people in Redcliffe by funding services that help older people stay safe and engaged with their community.

The Seniors Expo features stalls from a range of Queensland Government agencies, local services and community organisations who support and connect older Queenslanders.

“We are also committing $2.8 million ongoing to help seniors access elder abuse prevention, seniors legal and support services, and financial protection advice.” Ms D’Ath said.

Mr Crawford said the Palaszczuk Government recognised the important role of seniors in Queensland and the Redcliffe Seniors Expo will give older Queenslanders the opportunity to inform the priorities of the state’s next aging strategy.

“We know we need to get our planning right to ensure that we have the right services in place for seniors now, and in the future,” he said.

The Redcliffe Seniors Expo will be held at Redcliffe Dolphins Rugby League Club on Thursday from 9.30am.
