Construction Starts on New Bushfires NT Headquarters

Constructionhas started on the new $6.6 million Bushfires NT Headquarters which is adjacentto the World War 2 Heritage listed Hughes Airstrip in Acacia Hills.

Local companyC&R Constructions Pty Ltd was awarded the contract last month, which isexpected to support more than 30 jobs.

The newHeadquarters will support 35 Bushfires NT staff and approximately 350volunteers. This is a significant investment in the rural area and willstrengthen relationships with rural landholders, volunteers and serviceproviders.

Once completethe new facility will bring Bushfires NT staff from Winnellie and Batchelortogether under one roof making it easier to respond to, and manage bushfireemergencies to keep the community safe.

The newHeadquarters will include:

  • AnIncident Control Room;
  • Modernoffice accommodation;
  • Aradio operations room;
  • Volunteertraining room;
  • Alarge workshop;
  • Anappliance bay;
  • Avehicle wash-down bay;
  • Quickfill capability for firefighting vehicles;
  • Operationaland support areas;
  • Infrastructureand service connections for future expansion; and
  • Solarpanels and sectioned air-conditioning to reduce operational costs andgreenhouse gas emissions.

Works areanticipated to run over a 12-month period.
