Contemporary Music Fund nurtures aspiring young musicians

  • Propel Youth Arts WA receives $250,000 to deliver youth music initiatives over three years
  • Initiatives include an enhanced music component to the KickstART Festival and all‑ages gigs series
  • Part of $3 million McGowan Government Contemporary Music Fund election commitment
  • Western Australia’s aspiring young musicians will have more opportunities to take part in the contemporary music sector thanks to a $250,000 investment from the Contemporary Music Fund.

Not-for-profit organisation Propel Youth Arts WA received the funding to deliver initiatives over the next three years that will support young and emerging contemporary music artists and all‑ages music events.

Propel will develop the music component to their popular KickstART Festival, which is presented annually as part of Youth Week WA.

Starting next year, KickstART Music will provide marketing and skills development opportunities to better prepare aspiring young music artists to take part in the broader contemporary music industry.

Propel will also present an all-ages gigs series, which will provide opportunities for many more Western Australian emerging music acts to play at a live music venue, and for audiences of all‑ages to experience live music.

Support for young people to participate in the WA contemporary music industry is one of the priorities of the Contemporary Music Fund, which will deliver a total of $3 million into the sector over four years.

As stated by Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:

“Propel has a long and successful history of delivering programs that support young people in the arts, so I’m looking forward to seeing these initiatives next year.

“The Contemporary Music Fund is nurturing young Western Australian music artists and giving them a head start in the competitive contemporary music industry.

“Along with the Girls Rock! camp, also a part of the Contemporary Music Fund, the future is looking bright for our young and emerging contemporary music artists.
