Penrith City Council has appointed a construction contractor to deliver the next stage of the Dunheved Road Upgrade, marking an important milestone for this project.
Georgiou Group has been appointed following their successful delivery of the project’s Early Works stage, including the preparation of the final design.
Construction will see a range of improvements delivered to a 1.7 kilometre section of Dunheved Road between Tasman Street and Henry Lawson Avenue.
Work will include:
- Duplication of the carriageway between Tasman Street and Henry Lawson Avenue
- Key intersection upgrades at Greenbank Drive, Lavin Crescent, Francis Street and road transitions at Henry Lawson Avenue and Tasman Street
- Access improvements to local businesses
- Landscape improvements
- New pedestrian and cycling shared path
- Noise walls to help reduce traffic noise impacts for nearby residents
- Street lighting upgrade.
This project is funded through the Australian Government’s Infrastructure Investment Program. This stage is the currently funded section of the broader Dunheved Road Upgrade, with the remaining sections of the road to be delivered as further funding becomes available.
Penrith Mayor Todd Carney said the appointment of a construction contractor was welcome news for the Penrith community.
“This is a project our community has been wanting to see get underway, and we’re pleased to be moving into construction,” Cr Carney said.
“These works will deliver real improvements to a key section of Dunheved Road, including safer intersections, improved traffic flow and new pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.
“Importantly, this first stage will also deliver noise walls in identified locations, helping address a long-standing concern raised by residents living along the corridor.
“Council looks forward to continuing its partnership with Georgiou Group to deliver these works, while continuing to advocate for further funding to complete the remaining stages of the upgrade.”
Residents and businesses located near the project will receive further information about upcoming works, timing and potential impacts before construction begins.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2027.
