Cook Government Delivers Big School Upgrade For Lynwood

  • $25.3 million upgrade of Lynwood Senior High School complete
  • Additional capacity for 200 students in permanent accommodation
  • Includes a performing arts centre, music and visual arts block and a new sports hall

Education Minister Dr Tony Buti today officially opened new facilities at Lynwood Senior High School, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024.

The $25.3 million redevelopment includes a new student services area with wellbeing room and general learning classrooms, a performing arts centre, music and visual arts block and a new sports hall.

The addition of a modern gymnasium has supported Lynwood’s Specialist Soccer Academy to provide state-of-the-art facilities for indoor training, as well as facilities for hire in the community.

An engaging courtyard area with versatile spaces encourages interaction between students, teachers and visitors, while linking the administration building with the new buildings with the existing campus.

A state-of-the-art performing arts centre has an audience capacity of 250, while the new buildings will provide additional spaces for 200 students.

The facilities were designed by With Architecture Studio and built by EMCO Building.

Since 2017, the WA Labor Government has invested more than $4.4 billion into building and upgrading schools across Western Australia.

As stated by Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:

“We want to ensure WA students learn in the best facilities.

“This upgrade provides a performing arts centre, which will encourage students and community groups to pursue quality musical and dramatic productions, and a modern gymnasium to support Lynwood’s Specialist Soccer Academy and provide state-of-the-art facilities for indoor training.

“The outstanding new facilities will serve the education needs of local families for years to come.”

As stated by Cannington MLA Bill Johnston:

“Lynwood Senior High School has a proud history of providing students with a quality education since it was opened in 1974.

“I am very pleased I could help deliver these major upgrades for the community and the completion of the new buildings are a fitting way for the school to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

“I wish the staff, students and school community all the best in their future academic, sporting and entertainment endeavours.”
