Council adopts Doveton Pool in Park master plan

The City of Casey has endorsed the Doveton Pool in the Park master plan, paving the way for redevelopment of the pool facility and a year-round accessible park on part of the site.

The plan includes keeping the 50m pool and main building, plus developing an adventure play area, shelters/picnic and barbecue areas, a sand pit beach and water play area, an events space, and providing more carparking.

While Council supported the plan, estimated to cost $21.14 million, it will only be able to deliver the infrastructure required for the project if both the State and Federal Governments commit to 50 per cent of the project cost.

City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM, said the plan was shaped by feedback received from the community through direct engagement undertaken in 2021 and earlier this year.

“The masterplan aims to breathe new life into the site by offering a variety of recreational opportunities that can be accessed throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions,” Ms Duff said.

“We know the local community is passionate about retaining this facility and seeing it thrive into the future, and at the same time, having a district park that will be accessible for a range of activities all year round.

“This plan seeks to address both those needs and provide a broad range of recreation opportunities for residents close to home.”

Council is continuing to advocate to the State and Federal Government for funding to support the project.

Council is also working with the facility manager to increase the open days and hours of operation for the 2022/23 aquatic season to maximise access for the community. More details will be provided closer to the summer season.
