Council Announces Recipients Of Creative Industries Covid Response Micro Grant Program

Wyndham City is pleased to announce the recipients of a new Creative Industries Micro-Grant program.

As part of Wyndham City’s ongoing support for local creatives during COVID-19, in September Council launched a micro-grant program targeted towards creative industry business development.

Council allocated over $27,000 to the initiative and funding was split into two streams, Creative Development Grants and Marketing Asset Grants.

Creative Development Grants valued up to $2,500 aimed to support the creation of new work by local Wyndham creatives within the community.

Applicants were encouraged to focus on developing a creative community project, business or practice.

Marketing Asset Grants valued up to $1,800 were intended to help creatives to either move their businesses online or give their existing brand a revamp to meet the growing digital demand.

The successful applicants of the Creative Development Grant are Fatima Measham, Gideon Wilonja, Maisy Sutcliffe, Arts Assist, Suyee Hughes, Nandita Nadkarni, Angela Hickey and Jessica Rule.

Recipients of the Marketing Asset Grants are Catherine Liddle, Xiang Li, Eva Klusaceka, Melissa Lazaridis, Emily Kiefel and Steph Payne.

Director of City Design and Liveability, Ludo Campbell-Reid said the grants would enable creatives to continue their work during this challenging period.

“We recognise that the arts and creative industries were one of the first sectors to be impacted by COVID-19 and will continue to be impacted.” Mr Campbell-Reid said.

“Wyndham’s creative sector has many strengths and both established and emerging professionals reside and work here.”

“Supporting the sector at this stage of impact is important to continuing to have a vibrant and creative city.”

Micro-grant recipient and Wyndham Vale based writer Fatima Measham said the grant money would support her creative development.

“This grant gives me room to explore a creative idea close to my heart, via new and exciting pathways.” Ms Measham said.

“I look forward to seeing where I will end up and hope to bring the community with me.”

The funds will be spent by recipients on equipment, art materials and supplies, engaging digital marketing experts as well as the engagement of a mentors to provide professional and creative support.
