Council awards $1.46 million in grants to Kingston community groups

Kingston’s community groups will share in $1.46 million to continue their good work thanks to the City of Kingston’s annual community grants.

Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said the grants will assist many not-for-profit groups and help them deliver a wide range services, programs and special events to the community.

“There are so many fantastic community groups doing great work across Kingston, Council is proud to be able to support their efforts,” Cr Oxley said.

The 2019–20 Community Grants funding includes:

  • $1.13 million for three-year Partnership Grants to key organisations that provide important social and welfare services to Kingston residents, including community centres, neighbourhood houses and organisations which run community events
  • $305,916 in Annual Grants of up to $10,000 for not-for-profit community groups for once-off activities which help develop a healthy, active and socially connected community, and
  • $26,715 in Arts Grants.

This is in addition to $116,258 to be allocated throughout the year in Irregular Grants, Individual Development Grants, Schools Development Grants, and Culturally Diverse Meals Grants.

The 2019–20 Community Grants Program attracted a total of 220 grant applications, which includes 75 Partnership and 145 Annual Grants applications. Successful grants included:

  • $539,533 to support local neighbourhood houses and community centres
  • $72,172 to support the Chelsea and Moorabbin SES units
  • $47,756 to support local multicultural and seniors’ groups
  • $367,749 in funding for a range of community welfare organisation programs, including $34,218 towards Mentone Community Assistance and Information Bureau $38,495 towards Peninsula Community Legal Centre and $14,279 towards Pantry 5000; and
  • $3090 each to the Dingley Village Historical Society, Mordialloc Historical Society and Chelsea Historical Society.
