In Summary

  • A $289,200 contract has been awarded to DeAraugo and Lea Electrical Contractors Pty Ltd for a lighting upgrade at Tatura Park’s Western Oval.
  • The project will install four new light poles with 100 LUX LED lighting, addressing the current inadequate lighting for winter Australian Rules football training.
  • The upgraded lighting will support a range of activities, from football and cricket training to community events, enhancing local facilities and boosting community engagement.
  • Funded through the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, this upgrade will increase opportunities for Tatura’s community and attract major events to Greater Shepparton.

The contract, for $289,200 excluding GST, was awarded to DeAraugo and Lea Electrical Contractors Pty Ltd. The project will see the supply and installation of four new light poles with new 100 LUX LED sports field lighting at the Western Oval at Tatura Park in Hastie Street, Tatura.

The current lighting on the Western Oval is of poor standard and not adequate for Australian Rules football training in the winter season. The installation of new sports floodlighting will provide sufficient training lighting to 100 LUX standard.

The lighting upgrade will provide a multipurpose field with lighting that can cater for a wide range of activities including Australian Rules football training and night matches, enhanced cricket training, junior football training, and other sporting events. The upgrade will also increase the opportunity for broad community use and will attract further major events to the Greater Shepparton region.

Council’s Acting Director Infrastructure, Kelli Halden, said the upgrade was long overdue for the community of Tatura.

“We are thrilled to announce the awarding of the contract for the Tatura Park Western Oval lighting upgrade,” she said.

“This significant investment will transform the oval into a multipurpose field, enabling a wider range of activities and attracting major events to Greater Shepparton. This upgrade not only enhances our community’s facilities but also promotes increased engagement, health, and economic opportunities for the people of Tatura and surrounding areas.”

Council is working with the contractor in relation to timeframes and will work with stakeholders to minimise disruption throughout the works.

This project is funded by the Victorian Government through the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.
