Nillumbik has a new vision for the future, capturing the essence of what is most valued about our community and our Shire, and informed by extensive consultation.

The Community Vision – Nillumbik 2040 was adopted by Council this week along with the Council Plan 2021-2025, Nillumbik Health and Wellbeing Plan 2021-2025, and Financial Plan 2021-2031.

Nillumbik Mayor Peter Perkins said the Community Vision was an important reflection of the community’s values and aspirations.

“I’m very proud of what Council and the community have been able to achieve together,” Cr Perkins said.

“This vision will shape Council’s strategic planning, budgeting, service delivery and advocacy for the next 20 years.

“The new Council Plan, with its Annual Action Plan, sets the direction for this term of Council and outlines how we will deliver the priorities identified through an extensive process of engagement with our community.”

Deputy Mayor Frances Eyre said Council took a whole-of-community approach to developing the vision and plans.

“Thank you to everyone who has come on this journey with us. It’s important we continue to collaborate with our community and stakeholders as we now get to work on the priorities we have set for the future,” Cr Eyre said.

The Community Vision – Nillumbik 2040 includes our vision statement and key community aspirations centred on the themes of:

Each theme includes objectives, strategies and priority actions.

  • Physical activity
  • Healthy food
  • Reducing harm from alcohol, other drugs and gambling.

The 10-year Financial Plan 2021-2031 provides a forecast view of the financial sustainability of Council over 10 years, with services to be maintained at current levels and continued management of Council’s significant asset portfolio.

It outlines the financial resources necessary to implement the objectives and strategies of the Council Plan to achieve the Community Vision.
