Ararat Rural City Council is excited to announce the launch of a new series of dedicated web pages designed to showcase and protect the region’s unique local environment.
The new online hub provides residents and visitors with detailed information on Ararat Rural City’s nature and biodiversity, highlighting native flora and fauna as well as local waterways.
In addition to celebrating the region’s natural beauty, the site offers practical advice to assist landholders in managing agricultural threats, pests, and invasive weeds.
Community members can also access downloadable brochures featuring local imagery and useful guidebooks on native plants and wildlife.
The portal also outlines Council’s key climate adaptation and sustainability initiatives. Sustainability is embedded directly into Council’s Procurement Policy to ensure environmental impacts are prioritised when purchasing any goods or services.
Key adaptation projects highlighted include:
- Transitioning Council vehicles to electric power.
- Working to increase canopy cover to 30% across all major townships.
- Installing an energy backup system at Pomonal Community Hall, funded through the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance’s Powering Resilience in the Regions project and supported by the Victorian Government’s 100 Neighbourhood Batteries program (Round 2).
“Preserving our rich biodiversity and equipping our community with the tools to tackle local environmental challenges is a top priority for Council,” said Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Bob Sanders.
“This new online hub serves as a central resource for everyone, from local farmers managing livestock to families eager to learn more about our region’s unique plants and wildlife.”
