Council officially opens Booring Recreation Reserve

A new recreation reserve at Botanic Ridge was officially opened by the City of Casey on Wednesday 19 July.

Council’s Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM and Chief Executive Officer Glenn Patterson were joined by Member for Cranbourne Pauline Richards MP to open Booring Recreation Reserve.

Members of Devon Meadows Junior Football Club, Devon Meadows Football Netball Club and Devon Meadows Cricket Club, who now call the new recreation reserve home, were also in attendance.

Located on Orchard Park Drive in Botanic Ridge, Booring (which translates to bandicoot) Recreation Reserve includes two Australian Rules Football/cricket ovals, two netball courts, cricket training nets, a playground, public art, shared paths and car parking.

There is also a multi-use community pavilion, which includes:

  • Six changerooms
  • Six unisex amenity areas, including three showers
  • Two unisex umpires rooms
  • A multi-purpose community space
  • Public toilets
  • First aid room
  • Canteen
  • Storerooms
  • An undercover spectator area.

Ms Duff said Council is committed to continuing to provide the required infrastructure for all clubs across the municipality so our community can be active, healthy and connected, particularly for residents in our growth areas.

“The construction of the new reserve and surrounding facilities will increase participation in football, netball and cricket and allow maximum use of this reserve,” she said.

“It is also a great facility for all members of the community to use to increase their physical activity and keep fit and healthy – and the new playground will keep the children entertained for hours.”

Ms Duff said the $15.1 million project was funded by Council and the State Government via Sport and Recreation Victoria.

“Council received a $2 million grant via the Community Sport Infrastructure Stimulus Program to aid in the delivery of the reserve, and $400,000 via the Local Sports Grants Fund to develop the netball facilities,” Ms Duff said.

“We welcome Sport and Recreation Victoria’s funding towards this project and thank them for their investment in the region, which is one of the fastest growing in Victoria.

“We look forward to continuing to grow our partnerships to build sport and recreational facilities, as well as other critical infrastructure.”
