Orange City Council has released its election priorities for the upcoming state election.
The top three items on the ten-point list are:
- Fully fund the conservatorium/planetarium
- A purpose built-palliative care 12-bed hospice
- More roads funding
The election priority list has been sent to all candidates standing in the election for the seat of Orange.
INFRASTRUCTURE: Further funding for the planned conservatorium, a purpose-built palliative care facility and more roads funding head Orange City Council’s state election priority list.
Orange Mayor Jason Hamling said the election is a good opportunity to highlight how much the Council partners with other tier of government to deliver services for the community.
“Ten days out from the state poll, it’s a good time to let local candidates know which projects are important to Orange City Council,” Cr Hamling said. “We’ve been lobbying on these projects for some time, but the election can also be an opportunity to catch the candidates’ attention.”
“Some items on the list are projects like roads and the conservatorium that Council is ready to deliver as grant funding becomes available. Others, like the palliative care hospice must be built and managed by government departments but are just as important for the people of Orange.”
According to the Council, a future government should:
- Deliver critical cultural facilities to stimulate Orange economy and community health and well-being, by fully funding the Conservatorium/ Planetarium
- Commit to building a Palliative care 12-bed hospice purpose-built facility at the Bloomfield campus.
- Close the gap on funding to maintain local roads and provide funding to complete the Southern Feeder Road.
Other items on the longer list are:
- Activating the Orange Health Precinct
- Address affordable housing crisis
- Improve rail services from Orange
- Further develop Orange Regional Airport
- Invest in further water infrastructure
- Address domestic violence and community safety
- Act on local impact of climate change
