Council’s Crows Nest Community Nursery Open Day – 7 March

Rainfall earlier this year has the Toowoomba Region looking green once more with now being an ideal time to get back in the garden.

If you’re looking to find the best plants to place in your homes, Toowoomba Regional Council’s Crows Nest Community Nursery has a wide selection of native plants available.

Toowoomba Regional Council Environment and Community General Manager Nick Hauser said the nursery would host an open day for all residents wishing to buy native plants on Saturday 7 March.

“Our Region is well-known for its status as the Garden City and the Crows Nest Nursery open day represents a great opportunity for residents to come along and purchase some plants from the diverse range of species available,” Mr Hauser said.

Toowoomba Regional Council’s Community Nursery at Crows Nest is a volunteer-based environmental nursery, specialising in the supply of native plants of the Toowoomba Region.

Council continues to support and promote volunteer plant production activities at Crows Nest and Peacehaven Park, Highfields.

Council provides the nursery space at Crows Nest for volunteers and the volunteer activities are encouraged and directly assisted by Toowoomba Regional Council horticultural staff.

“Nursery open days provide residents with a great opportunity to pick up plants for their gardens at home and the open day showcases the great work of our nursery volunteers,” Mr Hauser said.

The volunteer group source seeds from Indigenous trees and shrubs that grow locally and because of the local provenance of the seeds the plants are more likely to be resistant to the local climatic conditions than plants grown from seeds sourced elsewhere.

The open day will be held on Saturday 7 March from 8am to 2pm.

The Crows Nest Community Nursery is located at the end of Depot Road (off Timber Road) in the Crows Nest Industrial Estate.
