Are you the next Marlene Gilson or Eugene von Guerard? Do you have an artwork or an idea that captures the landscape, seascape, lakes and plains of Corangamite? If yes, Corangamite Shire is seeking your input.

Artists across the south west are invited to submit paintings for Council’s 2023 calendar. The theme will be ‘Landscapes and Seascapes of Corangamite Shire’.

Mayor Ruth Gstrein said the calendar would reflect the Shire’s diverse geography from the coastline along the Great Ocean Road and Twelve Apostles National Park to the forested hinterland, open volcanic lakes and plains, pastures and landmarks.

“Over the years we’ve had different themes such as aerial photos, local heroes and animals of Corangamite. Next year we’d love to share the wonderful work artists in our region do to capture the beauty and emotion of our amazing part of the world.

“The project is open to all artists in South West Victoria and beyond. Any age or career level.

“Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and young people are encouraged.”

Expressions of Interest should be submitted via the online form at

corangamite.vic.gov.au/CalendarEoI until Thursday 8 September.

Successful artists will have about 10 weeks to paint a new work in any style or medium. Existing works will also be considered.

The top 12 entries will be selected by a panel including one Councillor, two Council staff members, and a representative from Regional Arts Victoria.

Council will not buy the artwork but artists will be paid for use of the image in the calendar and related promotional material. Cr Gstrein also reminded community groups to submit events for listing in the calendar as a hard copy reminder hanging in homes and workplaces.

“Eight thousand calendars are sent out to everyone in the Shire so it’s a great opportunity to promote local events, programs and important dates.

“It will be distributed with the Summer edition of the Corangamite Shire News in December.”
