Council services over Christmas and New Year

Sunshine Coast Council will have some changes to hours of services during the festive season.

An after-hours emergency call centre will operate 24 hours a day via the normal customer service number 5475 7272.

Non-urgent matters can be logged at any time via Council’s online portal MyCouncil at www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au. The portal allows you to do business with council online at your convenience.

There will be no interruptions to kerbside waste and recycling collections. Residential collections will be as per normal schedule on all days, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Council’s resource recovery facilities will close on Christmas Day, but will trade as normal on all other days.

Sunshine Coast Libraries will be closed on public holidays, but available all other days of the holiday season for residents to enjoy thousands of books, magazines, music and movies suitable for all ages to borrow.

Don’t forget the e-library which has thousands of online resources from which to choose while the library is closed. The Sunshine Coast Mobile Library service will close at 4pm on Christmas Eve and will resume on Monday, January 6.

A great place to visit this Christmas break is the state heritage listed property, Bankfoot House, which offers extraordinary family history dating back to 1868, with guided tours available to the public.

The house and heritage precinct is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday10am-3pm, and closed public holidays. Bankfoot House will be closed Christmas and New Year week, before re-opening Friday, January 3.

It’s business as usual for Caloundra Regional Gallery, offering locals the opportunity to immerse themselves in a food art exhibition with contemporary artist Elizabeth Willing’s, Pith. Brisbane creative duo, Laurence Usher is the current Pop Up Feature Artisan in the Gallery Store. The Gallery is open 10am-4pm Tuesday to Friday, 10am-2pm on weekends and closed public holidays.

If you are looking to swap screen time for green time then Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve is the place to visit. The reserve is open daily between 7am-6pm.

The Rainforest Discovery Centre will be closed public holidays, otherwise open daily between 9am-4pm.

Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden at Tanawha is also a great day out, it will be open daily from 7am-6pm. However, the Maroochy Arts and Ecology Centre will be closed from Christmas day to Wednesday, January 1.

The Sippy Creek Animal Pound will operate as normal, open 8:15am-6pm Monday to Friday and 9am-12pm on Saturdays. The pound will be closing early on Christmas Eve at 2pm and closed Sundays and public holidays.

All Customer Contact counters will close at 1.30 pm on Tuesday December 24. The reception desks in Nambour and Caloundra will close from 2pm on Tuesday, December 24.

The counters and reception desks will close on Friday, December 27, however you will be able to contact council via phone, web chat, email and web call back on this day.

Customer Contact counters and reception desks will re-open on Monday, December 30.

Development Information counters will close from 1.30pm on December 24 and will reopen on Thursday, January 2 in Maroochydore and Nambour and Monday, January 6 in Caloundra.
