Surf Coast Shire Council is reminding accommodation providers of their important role in helping minimise risk of COVID-19 infection.
Council is stressing the important Australian and Victorian government messages that are urging people to stay at home and avoid any unnecessary travel. It is also prudent to remind accommodation providers of the importance of heightened cleaning, hygiene and physical distancing procedures that are important at this time.
“We must do what we can to minimise infection risks for our communities,” Chief Executive Officer Keith Baillie said.
“Surf Coast Shire is affirming the importance of accommodation providers such as hotels, Airbnb, Stayz and holiday houses paying special attention to enhanced procedures at this time.
“This would include ensuring physical distancing occurs where people might be required to queue, provision of additional infection control measures like hand sanitiser, routine cleaning of frequently touched hard surfaces with detergent or disinfectant, and detailed cleaning of facilities in accordance with Department of Health and Human Services guidelines.
“Our Environmental Health Officers will be following up with all registered accommodation providers, as well as real estate agents, to remind them of procedures they should be following.
“This is for the protection of operators as well as any patrons, and the broader Surf Coast community.”
The Victorian Government has announced temporary closure of all caravan parks and camping grounds, effective from midnight 25 March, in a bid to further minimise COVID-19 infection risk.
