Council targets problem boat and trailer parking areas

The City of Canada Bay will target unlawfully parked boats and trailers at local hotspots following unanimous endorsement at its 17 May Council meeting.

As part of the action, Council officers will focus on enforcement around local schools, community facilities, and parks.

“We are hearing growing concerns from residents fed up people treating our streets as free vehicle storage for trailers and boats,” Deputy Mayor Stephanie di Pasqua said.

“Of even more significance, large trailers and boats reduce pedestrian visibility, making it more dangerous for our residents, especially children, to cross the road.”

For example, visibility for children crossing between the fields at Campbell Park and Lysaght Park, Chiswick, is consistently obscured by large vehicles.

According to state legislation, it is an offence for any boat trailer to stay in the same spot for longer than 28 days, at least as far as the intersection of another street.

In addition to targeted enforcement, Council officers will investigate options to improve pedestrian safety and boat and trailer parking around Five Dock Park, Campbell Park, and Lysaght Park.
