Council welcomes milestone towards greyhound racing in Orange

Orange Council

Orange City Council has reached a preliminary agreement with the Greyhound Breeders, Owners and Trainers Association (GBOTA) to sell land on Orange’s eastern outskirts for a new greyhound track and complex.

In a decision at last night’s Council meeting, the Council noted that a heads of agreement (pre-contractual agreement) had been reached between Council and GBOTA to sell the land in Perc Griffith Way and to endorse the terms of the sale.

TRACK: The site of the former Highland Paceway trotting track in Perc Griffith Way could become the home for a new greyhound complex.

Orange Mayor Jason Hamling has welcomed news of the agreement.

“Greyhound racing has a long history in Orange and I’m delighted we’ve reached this milestone towards bringing a high-quality track complex back to Orange,” Cr Jason Hamling.

“There are many greyhound breeders in Orange who will be excited by this decision and who are looking forward to being able to race locally again.”

The terms of the agreement are to remain confidential until the sale contract is finalised.

The new proposal does not affect the go-kart racing track alongside the former trotting track.
