Preparations are nearly complete for the 2019 Energy Breakthrough and the countdown is on.

The 2019 event will again be staged in Maryborough at Princes Park from 20 to 25 November.

Held annually in the Central Goldfields Shire, the award-winning event is the largest and most significant event on the Shire’s local events calendar.

Organisers are expecting approximately:

  • 8,000 direct participants
  • 12,000 spectators
  • The event accounts for 16.5% of annual tourism visits to the Central Goldfields Shire.
  • $4.9 million injected into the local economy in 2018

This year 341 teams from 156 schools have been entered.

Central Goldfields Shire Administrator Hugh Delahunty said the significance of the Energy Breakthrough is vital to the community.

“The Energy Breakthrough inspires students from across Australia to embrace learning and be creative and innovative, but it also brings important tourism dollars to our community.

“Accommodation is expected to be full, our restaurants and cafes are busy and other local businesses enjoy the flow on effects that only an event of this size and calibre can bring.

“We look forward to welcoming around 8,000 students as well as their families and friends to our community next week.”

The Energy Breakthrough is a joint initiative of Central Goldfields Shire Council and the Country Education Partnership and made possible thanks to support from the State Government, Regional Roads Victoria, La Trobe University, Transurban, Central Highlands Water and True Foods.
