Countdown to Carols by Candlelight

Preparations well underway for magical event

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas for Shellharbour City Council’s Events Team!

Our much-loved Carols by Candlelight event will be held at Centenary Fields, Croome Regional Sporting Complex on Friday 8 December from 6pm to 9pm.

ABC Illawarra Mornings presenter Nick Rheinberger has been confirmed as emcee. A range of soloists, singing groups, and backup vocalists have already auditioned and expressions of interest for food and market stallholders closed last week.

Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said that Carols by Candlelight was one of the most popular events on Council’s calendar.

“While Christmas is still a couple of months away, these events involve an enormous amount of coordination and planning, Council’s Events Team is working with Laughter House Entertainment to deliver Carols that are bigger and better again,” Mayor Homer said.

“We will have a talented range of performers and plenty of opportunity for crowd participation in the evening’s celebrations,” he said.

Last year saw the popular annual event move to Albion Park for the first time, after many years of success at Reddall Reserve, Lake Illawarra. Mayor Homer said the move was well received by communities in the city’s west.

“Our western suburbs are experiencing rapid growth, so it was wonderful that we were able to take Carols by Candlelight to Albion Park Showground last year,” Mayor Homer said.

“Building on last year’s success, the 2023 carols event will be held at Centenary Fields at Croom Regional Sporting Complex, which offers more parking and improved accessibility. It is also a more centralised location for residents city-wide,” he said.
