Couple arrested over supermarket robberies, South Australia

Police have arrested two remaining suspects wanted in connected with two supermarket robberies.

About 8pm on Monday 1 November, a man and woman wearing full face motorcycle helmets entered behind the service counter of a supermarket at Wilkinson Road, Para Hills. The man threatened staff with a Taser before stealing a box containing numerous cartons of cigarettes. The couple left on a black motorcycle bearing no registration plates.

Investigators linked this incident to a robbery only hours before at a supermarket at Gilles Plains.

About 5.40pm on Monday 1 November, a man and woman entered the staff area of the supermarket on North East Road. The man allegedly threatened staff with a Taser before the pair stole two boxes containing cartons of cigarettes. Both were wearing full face motorcycle helmets at the time.

Fortunately no one was injured during these incidents.

Just before 9.30 on Saturday 6 November, police received information that the two suspects were sighted in Holden Hill. Police attended the area and located the pair walking a motorcycle, believed to have been used in the robberies, along Elliott Avenue. The couple were subsequently arrested.

A 39-year-old man from Glengowrie and a 29-year-old woman from Hillcrest were both charged with two counts of aggravated robbery. They have been refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The couple’s arrest is in addition to the arrest of a 37-year-old man from Para Vista on Tuesday who was also involved.

Only a small amount of cigarettes have been recovered at this time.
