Cove takes out Western Australia’s top property prize

The Cove by Blackburne, a new residential development in the Minim Cove precinct on the Mosman Park foreshore, has taken out Western Australia’s top property award.

Paul Blackburne, founder and Managing Director of one of Australia’s largest property development companies, was presented with the Rider Levett Bucknall Western Australian Development of the Year award today.

“The Cove was conceived for downsizers wanting high-end apartment design with minimal ongoing costs and fees. The location in Minim Cove, close to healthy lifestyle amenities, meant the project could avoid the higher strata fees associated with facilities like pools and gyms. It’s this clever business model that captured the imagination of our judges,” says Property Council WA Executive Director Sandra Brewer.

“The collection of two, three and four-bedroom apartments, designed by DMG Architecture and Construction, brings innovative new architecture to the area. The Cove is both a haven and a hub, nestled in its natural environment and with fantastic amenity on its doorstep,” Ms Brewer adds.

The Cove also demonstrates sustainable design thinking, incorporating solar panels, rainwater capture, a high-efficiency central heat pump system for hot water, bicycle-friendly access and storage facilities, and the first so-called green roof on an apartment in the City of Fremantle.

The RLB Western Australian Development of the Year award is part of the 2020 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards program.

The Cove is now competing for the Avenor Award for Best Residential Development at the national awards, to be held virtually on Thursday 22 October.

RLB has partnered with the Property Council to present the awards program since its inception in 1982.

“Property is Australia’s largest industry, contributing 13 per cent of the nation’s GDP and employing 1.4 million people,” says RLB Managing Director, Mark Bendotti.

“Innovative projects like The Cove showcase the smart solutions that create jobs, growth and opportunities for West Australians,” Mr Bendotti concludes.
