Covid Update: VIC & SA Hotspots Revoked

Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet

The Chief Health Officer is revoking hotspots in Victoria and South Australia for the purposes of travel to the Northern Territory, effective from 12.01am on 28 July 2021.

Hotspot locations being revoked include:

Victoria

· Greater Melbourne

· City of Greater Geelong

· Shire of Moorabool

· Bass Coast Shire

· Mildura Rural City

South Australia

· Metropolitan Adelaide

People arriving in the Northern Territory from those areas in Victoria and South Australia will no longer have to undertake mandatory supervised quarantine in the NT. Anyone currently in mandatory supervised quarantine from these areas will be able to exit.

Revoking hotspot locations in Victoria and South Australia follows the lifting of lockdown restrictions, which have worked to successfully contain the COVID-19 outbreaks in these states.

The Chief Health Officer will continue to review and assess the COVID-19 situation across Australia, taking into account COVID-19 monitoring and data collection, the extent of community transmission and risks to the NT community.

The risk of COVID-19 in our communities cannot be eliminated which is why it is important for everyone to follow all health directions.

  • Book your COVID-19 vaccine
  • Check in using The Territory Check In App every time, everywhere
  • If you have symptoms, stay away from others and get tested for COVID-19
  • Wash your hands with soap and water and use hand sanitiser regularly
  • Do not go to work if you feel sick
  • Maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres where possible

Quotes attributable to Chief Health Officer Dr Hugh Heggie:

“The swift public health controls and lockdown restrictions put in place in Victoria and South Australia have curbed the COVID-19 outbreak in these states.

“Victoria in particular, has again been able to get the outbreak under control and down to cases only involving people who are already in quarantine.

“I am therefore able to revoke hotspots in Victoria and South Australia, following lockdown restrictions being reduced in those states.

“COVID-19 has not gone away. It is paramount that we remain vigilant and consider the need to travel, and the potential consequences of travelling.

“The most important and effective action Territorians can take is to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Getting the COVID-19 vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and your family and get life back to normal sooner.”
