An Urban Design
Framework (UDF) will be developed to guide future development surrounding the
railway station.
The UDF will
help create a shared design vision and direct future public and private
investment in the area.
Priorities of
the project include:
– upgrading spaces and places
for people and events
– improving streetscapes to make
the area safe and accessible to all
– identifying opportunities to
encourage a mix of housing types; and
– ideas for a clever and creative
South Geelong
The UDF will
provide planning guidelines to protect the valued character of the suburb and
guide future building form, scale and materials.
The project
builds on the City’s Settlement Strategy, which recommended investigating
opportunities for higher density development around rail corridors.
It also follows
the commitment of the state and federal governments to duplicate the rail track
from South Geelong to Waurn Ponds.
The rail
improvement project includes the upgrade of stations and platforms.
It is important
that our planning frameworks support and leverage the opportunities presented
by major infrastructure projects.
There will be
several opportunities for the community to provide input into the development
of the UDF.
As part of the
engagement, public workshops will be held at East Geelong Football Netball Club
on 31 July (5.30pm to 8.30pm) and 6 August (6.00pm to 9.00pm).
A further
workshop will be held at Eastern Hub Geelong on 10 August (9.30am to 12.30pm).
These sessions
will provide a chance for people to hear about the UDF process and to share
their own ideas.

Recommendations
from the UDF will be linked to future budgets, development guidelines and
planning zones for implementation.

character homes, major rail and road networks and key recreation and cultural
facilities.
