Creating Jobs and Safer Communities: New 24 Hour Police Station at John Stokes

A tender forthe design and construction of a new 24-hour police station in Nightcliff aspart of the John Stokes Redevelopment was released earlier this week.

The PoliceStation forms a critical part of the wider redevelopment, which will provide acentral community hub, improving the lifestyle and reinvigorating the area.

The demolitionof John Stokes, is currently underway with local contractor NTEX awarded the$1.1 million contract to make way for construction to begin which will seemore than 250 local jobs over the lifetime of the project.

The new 24-hourpolice station will include:

  • A24-hour front counter
  • Communityspace
  • Musterrooms to cater for General-Duties officers and Alcohol Policing Unit members
  • Interviewrooms
  • Asecure car park
  • Outsiderespite area for Police
  • Break-outspaces

The John StokesRedevelopment also includes the construction of specifically designed publichousing, including for seniors and people living with disabilities, along witha pedestrian friendly link between Nightcliff Village and Nightcliff ShoppingCentre. It will also include the expansion of local services and open space forthe community to enjoy.

Construction ofthe new Police Station will commence late 2019, with completion anticipated forlate 2020.
