All staff present self evacuated safely. There were no patrons in the restaurant at the time of the fire.

CFA Commander Tim Holland said the fire, believed to have started in the restaurant kitchen, demonstrated the importance of all businesses having a fire plan.

“We could have easily seen serious injuries here, but the staff present acted quickly,” he said.

“It shows just how critical it is to have a fire plan, and that your staff are aware of that plan and what to do if there is a fire.”

The fire has caused substantial damage to the 40 by 60 metre restaurant and cellar door complex.

Crews were called out to reports of a kitchen fire at 10.49 am and had the fire under control by 12.54 pm.

There are no suspicious circumstances at this stage. The cause of the fire is being determined.
