Cringila Hills Recreation Master Plan is ready to roll – Wollongong

Cringila Hills Recreation Master Plan has turned a significant corner, with the development of the recreation precinct given the go-ahead.

On Monday 16 March Council recommended that the Cringila Recreation Master Plan be adopted, following supportive community feedback for the concepts in the Master Plan which was exhibited through November to January.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said it was clear from community feedback, there was a strong desire to “activate” the site.

“We have responded to feedback and answered this call with a multipurpose plan that encourages a range of recreational pursuits, healthy lifestyle and continues to build our recreational assets to enhance the liveability our city,” Cr Bradbery said.

Under the Master Plan the Cringila Hills precinct will feature a variety of mountain bike trails, a bike skills park and a BMX / pump track. A new playground will be installed with a strong focus on nature play, along with park amenity upgrades that will include tree planting, picnic settings and water – refill stations.

Formalised walking trails with an accessible walking circuit will also be added to the site. Improvements to the entry of the park will also be made, with improved car parking, signage, new gates and landscaping incorporated in a Vegetation Management Plan a feature.

“The development of this master plan has received strong support from the community this new diverse recreational space, with mountain biking opportunities and walking trails, will provide fun and recreation for both locals and visitors. Council is taking the natural environment of this area, especially native flora and bird life, into consideration as significant features for enhancement.” Cr Bradbery said.

Development and construction of the multistage project is proposed to begin in the new financial year.
