Critical incident declared after motorcyclist dies following pursuit – Strathfield

A critical incident investigation is underway after a motorcyclist crashed and died following a police pursuit in Sydney’s Inner West today.

About 2.30pm (Monday 1 April 2024), an officer from Traffic and Highway Patrol attempted to stop a motorcycle on Arthur Street, Strathfield.

When the rider failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

A short time later, the motorcycle has clipped a Toyota Corolla while attempting to overtake the vehicle before losing control and hitting a power pole.

Officers treated the male rider – believed to be aged in his 20’s – until the arrival of paramedics; however, he died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene has been established with local road closures in place. Arthur Street is closed between Henley Street and Hornsey Road and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

An investigation has commenced into the incident by a Critical Incident Investigation Team from Bankstown Police Area Command.

Those investigations will be subject to an independent review.
