The Community Strategic Plan (CSP) sets the strategic agenda for the work of Council over the next 10 years. The CSP is updated in the first six months of a new council being elected.

Kiama CEO Jane Stroud has released a report on the “State of the Organisation” [Link to business papers], which notes the core challenges for the organisation in respect to:

  • Financial sustainability
  • Organisational capability, culture and performance
  • Risk and governance

“The Community Strategic Plan (CSP) and the workshop sessions planned provide the perfect opportunity for the Councillors to lead the discussion with the community,” said Ms Stroud

Workshops will be in a “World Café” format to facilitate discussion. The Mayor Neil and Councillors will be supported by staff, who will help keep topics on track take notes.

“It is expected they will be robust and considered conversations about how best to galvanise the resources and vision of the organisation and its community on these core challenges in the longer term. Creating a shared vision for improvement, and course correction is what is critical in this process,” said Ms Stroud

Kiama Mayor Neil Reilly said: “The Community Strategic Plan is the community’s chance to envision what they want for their Local Government Area over the next decade. The development of the CSP plan must be informed by strong foundational understanding of business challenges and opportunities. This document is the first step, not the last in that process.”

Ms Stroud said, “It is anticipated that a series of strategic improvement plans will be developed for priority areas. Regular reporting back to Council, key committees / boards and the community on progress made in the priority areas will be essential in providing confidence and trust in actions.”

If you are unable to attend one of the workshops and/or would like to have your say electronically, you can fill out our CSP online survey.

The CSP workshops form part of the important information-gathering process for Kiama staff to produce an updated CSP for 2022-2032.

The CSP will also draw on findings from community consultations undertaken in recent years, including:
