Currambine Primary School is receiving more than $1.5 million over 2019-20 and 2020-21 to upgrade facilities and address high priority maintenance items.
This includes funding to replace seven 50-year-old demountable classrooms with new transportable classrooms as well as upgrades to classrooms and toilet facilities.
The remaining $52,000 will be used to address high priority maintenance items at the school.
This is in addition to $450,000 worth of recently completed election commitments for the school, including a perimeter security fence and refurbishing a classroom into a science room.
Under the McGowan Government’s $200 million maintenance package announced in September, $165 million of funding is being allocated to schools for targeted maintenance works, upgrades or refurbishments.
Every school will also share in $35 million to address maintenance works or identified minor works listed in Building Condition Assessment reports.
The package will apply to all 789 WA public schools and will deliver an economic stimulus creating thousands of jobs across the State.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
“More than $1.5 million has been allocated to Currambine Primary School through our major maintenance blitz package.
“This is on top of about $450,000 in election commitments which have now come to fruition.
“It’s crucial we continue to invest in local schools to make sure facilities remain at the highest standard for our kids, while creating local job opportunities for local workers.”
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“I’m pleased Currambine Primary School can share in one of the biggest ever investments in WA schools.
“The funding will enable a great improvement in the school’s facilities, especially with seven new classrooms, and will help to foster the best possible learning environment for students and teachers.
“The upgrades to classrooms and toilets and other outstanding maintenance issues will make a big difference as well as the recently completed program of election commitments with a new perimeter security fence, an asbestos removal program and the conversion of a classroom into a dedicated science room.”
