Daly River Boat Ramp Construction Tender Release a Win for Anglers

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government will be constructing a new car park and ablution facility at the Daly River Boat Ramp with a tender for the project recently released.

Minimising waste and dust in the area, the new car park will provide a safe parking space for boat ramp users.

This is another Territory Government project funded under the $50 million RecFishing Futures Program to improve recreational fishing infrastructure in the Territory.

Works include:

  • construction of new car park with large car and trailer bays;
  • improved line up path for easier boat launching on the existing ramp;
  • preparation bays prior to launching boats;
  • new toilet block with handwashing facilities and disabled access; and
  • lighting to new facilities.

The tender will be awarded shortly with works anticipated to commence in August 2021 and are expected to be complete in the middle of 2022.

Quotes attributed to the Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, Eva Lawler:

“The Territory Labor Government’s top priority is jobs and this project will support more than 20 jobs for Territorians during construction.

“We have listened to community feedback about the car park at the Daly River boat ramp and we will improve the safety, while supporting tourism and creating local jobs.”

Quotes attributed to the Minister for Recreational Fishing, Paul Kirby:

“The Daly River is one of the Northern Territory’s most popular fishing destinations for tourists and Territorians and this includes the many Barramundi fishing competitions that are held on the river each year.

“The upgrades to these facilities, in consultation with local traditional owners, will mean that more Territorians and tourist will be able to access this wonderful fishing destination and catch one of our famous barramundi”.
