As a result of ongoing police efforts in targeting hoon driving and motorcycle riders, two teens have been fined and one arrested after they were seen riding a motorbike through the Northern suburbs on Saturday laser.
About 3.20pm Saturday 21 November a Northern District patrol was stationary at the intersection of Philip Highway and Hogarth Road when officers observed a motorcycle travelling east go through the red traffic light.
There were two occupants on the motorbike, the pillion passenger was not wearing a helmet. The motorbike’s number plate was also obscured with toilet paper, with “CYA” written on it.
Patrols called for the assistance of PolAir who kept observations on the motorcycle until it stopped at an address on Heywood Street, Elizabeth North. The motorcycle had been seen travelling at high speeds, through reserves, footpaths and on the incorrect side of the road at various locations.
Patrols attended the address where the located the rider, a 16-year-old boy, and the passenger, a 17-year-old Elizabeth Downs boy. Both were issued COVID expiation notices and the 16-year-old was arrested and charged with; rider with passenger not wearing motor bike helmet, fail to stop at traffic light, drive motor vehicle with obscured number plate, contravene condition of learners licence, misuse of motor vehicle and drive at a speed/manner dangerous.
The motorcycle was not listed as stolen and was impounded for 28 days. The teen was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Youth Court on 8 January 2021.
Superintendent Guy Buckley, Officer in Charge of Northern District said this incident highlights that police are continuing to target those people who engage in dangerous riding behaviour.
“Sixteen motorcycle riders have lost their lives on our State’s roads this year and this type of behaviour not only puts themselves in danger but other road users as well”.
“Police will take action against those people who blatantly disregard the rules on our roads” he said.
