Orange City Council has set a date to consider the proposal to remove up to 250 trees from the site of a new sports precinct.
The Council will meet Monday 28 June at 7pm, with the tree decision the only item on the agenda.
The Development Application (DA) to remove trees, on the site next to the Jack Brabham sports field, needs approval from both the NSW Heritage Council and Orange City Council.

Monday’s meeting comes after discussions with the Heritage Council. The Heritage Council has decided to support the sports precinct, but subject to a number of conditions.
As a result, Monday’s meeting will only be deciding on the removal of trees in two areas at either end of the site, in the immediate area of the main football stadium and the athletics track.
The Heritage Council has asked for a landscape master plan to be provided for the rest of the site before it considers the removal of other trees.
It’s expected Orange City Council would consider another DA to remove trees on the rest of the site later in the year, after the Heritage Council has considered the matter. However, if the DA is supported at Monday night’s meeting, work would begin in the coming weeks to remove the first trees.
