Death in custody, Beenleigh Watchhouse

The Ethical Standards Command is investigating the death of a man at the Beenleigh Watchhouse this evening, April 22.

The 30-year-old man was being held in the watchhouse pending a transfer to a correctional facility after being sentenced for breaching a domestic violence order.

The man was located deceased during a routine cell check at 5.15pm.

A watchhouse nurse rendered first aid and Queensland Ambulance Officers attended, however the man was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The State Coroner has been advised and the Crime and Corruption Commission will provide independent oversight of the Ethical Standards Command investigation.
