The Tasmanian Government is delivering on its 100 Day commitment to introduce monthly public financial reporting, making Tasmania the most transparent jurisdiction in Australia.
The new framework will make Tasmania the first state in Australia to publicly release monthly financial reports for Government departments, setting a new benchmark for transparency and accountability in the public sector.
Treasurer Eric Abetz said the new Monthly Reporting Framework, which applies to the eight Government departments, would provide Tasmanians with more regular and accessible information about the State’s finances.
“Transparency and accountability are fundamental to good government, and this commitment delivers both,” the Treasurer said.
“For the first time, monthly financial reports will be publicly released, giving Tasmanians greater visibility of how public money is being managed.
“Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future we’re continuing to strengthen transparency and accountability across Government.”
The framework will provide monthly reporting at the General Government Sector level, and for the individual departments covered by the framework, ensuring the community can monitor financial performance throughout the year.
Reporting will commence in November following the finalisation of departments’ 2025-26 financial statements and confirmation of opening balances for 2026-27, ensuring the information released is accurate, reliable and consistent and will be supported by a new Treasurer’s Instruction under Tasmania’s financial management framework.
“Our Government made a commitment to improve transparency, and we are getting on with the job of delivering it,” the Treasurer said.
