Delivering opportunities for Tasmanian artists

Jeremy Rockliff,Acting Minister for the Arts

Congratulations to six Tasmanian artists who will have their work featured at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) next year after being selected to participate in a new arts initiative, Hobart Current.

Developed by TMAG and the City of Hobart, Hobart Current aims to showcase contemporary artists working across different mediums, culminating in an exhibition every two years.

Initiatives like this support our plan to grow the arts sector and create more jobs in Tasmania. It will provide greater opportunities for artists, while making their work more accessible to locals and visitors alike.

The artists were chosen following an extensive application process, with each to create new works in response to the theme Liberty: from Here to Here. Their work will be featured in a major exhibition at the museum, as well as at two public art sites.

The Hobart Current: Liberty 2020 exhibition will open in September next year.
