- Denmark picks Perth as team base camp location for FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023
- World’s biggest women’s sporting event – around two billion viewers expected
- Global spotlight will be on Perth as it hosts five international matches
Perth has been selected by Denmark as its base for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 following site inspections by team representatives.
The tournament next year will be one of the biggest sporting events ever seen in Western Australia.
With two of their three Group Stage matches to be played in Perth, the Danish team has chosen the Kingsway Reserve and DoubleTree by Hilton Waterfront for its team base camp as a central location and training site for the duration of the team’s Group Stage matches.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 is proudly supported by the McGowan Government through Tourism WA.
In Australia, 35 base camp options were shortlisted across the five host cities and 11 other regional centres, for the 16 global teams that will play matches in Australia.
Three of these 16 teams remain unknown and will be announced after a Play-Off Tournament in February 2023.
WA’s new $40 million State Football Centre in Queens Park, which is being jointly funded by the WA and Australian Governments, is in development and will be one of two training grounds used by teams competing in Perth during the tournament.
Dorrien Gardens is the second training ground, where the McGowan Government is contributing $200,000 to match the Australian Government’s election pledge of $200,000 towards upgrades at the site.
Matches will be played at Perth Rectangular Stadium, with the McGowan Government investing $35 million to deliver upgrades to the venue.
Confirmed matches taking place in Perth are:
- 22 July 2023: Denmark v People’s Republic of China
- 26 July 2023: Republic of Ireland v Canada
- 29 July 2023: Jamaica v Group C play-off winner
- 1 August 2023: Group B play-off winner v Denmark
- 3 August 2023: Morocco v Colombia
