Initial concept plans for 13 public schools being upgraded as part of the Marshall Liberal Government’s $1.3 billion investment in capital works can now be revealed to local communities.
The Government’s massive investment will improve school facilities across the state, support sustainable enrolment growth in government schools and help transition Year 7 into high school.
The images provide a first glimpse of the improved facilities that local students will soon have access to at the following schools: Aberfoyle Park High School, Banksia Park International High School, Gawler & District College, Grant High School, Heathfield High School, Le Fevre High School, Loxton High School, Mount Barker High School, Murray Bridge High School, Nuriootpa Primary School, Parafield Gardens High School, Paralowie School and Salisbury High School.
Among the capital works detailed in the concept plans are:
- The construction of a new performing arts building to include drama, music and general learning and a new commercial kitchen at Banksia Park International High School, as well as the refurbishment of existing buildings to provide three additional classrooms to accommodate Year 7 students.
- The construction of a new building including a gymnasium with change rooms and home economics facilities at Parafield Gardens High School.
- The redevelopment of facilities at Aberfoyle Park High School to create a performing arts centre to provide music teaching and practice spaces for large performances, as well as modern learning spaces and collaborative areas.
- The construction of a new Agricultural Studies building for Loxton High School, in addition to new modern classrooms to replace ageing infrastructure.
- A new performing arts studio with learning areas and a significant refurbishment of a number of teaching spaces at Mount Barker High School.
Education Minister John Gardner said the concept designs reflect the local priorities of each school and will ensure that they are prepared for the future.
“We are delighted that these schools and their communities can start to see the new vision of their school come to life,” said Minister Gardner.
“These concept plans reflect local priorities in a meaningful way and provide a glimpse of the modern, flexible, state-of-the-art learning spaces we are building.
“The Marshall Liberal Government is investing $1.3 billion into capital works across the state to improve school facilities, support sustainable enrolment growth and help transition Year 7 into high school, bringing our education system in line with the rest of the country.
“This is a significant investment in the future of our children and a boost to the economy of our state, with the works creating thousands of jobs statewide.”
