The Crisafulli Government has today announced key changes to chief executives in the Queensland Government.
David Mackie PSM has been appointed as the Director-General, Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, for a five-year term, commencing 17 August 2026.
Mr Mackie has served as Queensland Public Sector Commissioner since 2023 and previously led the Department of Justice and Attorney-General as Director-General from 2015 to 2023. He has also held senior executive roles across justice, governance and public policy portfolios and has led significant whole-of-government reform initiatives.
Queensland Corrective Services Commissioner Paul Stewart APM has advised he will retire to focus on his health after 40 years within the Queensland Police Service and since 2021 as Queensland Corrective Services.
Mr Stewart oversaw significant reform and major correctional infrastructure projects, including the delivery of the Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre during his tenure and has continued to lead Queensland Corrective Services while undergoing cancer treatment.
Deputy Commissioner Jon Peach will act as the Queensland Corrective Services Commissioner and Mr Chris Lamont will act as Public Sector Commissioner.
Premier David Crisafulli said Mr Stewart had built an exceptional legacy across both the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Corrective Services, with four decades of service to Queensland.
“Paul Stewart has dedicated more than 40 years to serving Queenslanders, including extensive tenure in the Queensland Police Service and as Commissioner of Queensland Corrective Services since 2021,” Premier Crisafulli said.
“His career has been marked by integrity, strong leadership and an unwavering commitment to community safety and we thank him for his contribution to Queensland.
“While facing significant health challenges, he continued to serve Queensland with professionalism and dedication. We thank him for his service and wish him and his family all the very best for the future.”
Premier David Crisafulli said Mr Mackie brought more than 35 years of public sector experience, including over a decade in chief executive roles across the Queensland Government.
“David Mackie is one of Queensland’s most experienced and accomplished public sector leaders, with a proven track record of delivering reform, strengthening governance and leading large, complex organisations,” Premier Crisafulli said.
“David’s commitment to excellence in public administration and delivery of outcomes for Queenslanders will be invaluable as we continue to drive economic growth, infrastructure delivery and planning reform across the State.
“As this portfolio is responsible for delivering the Olympic Infrastructure needed for 2032 and beyond, David will be instrumental in building Queensland’s future.”
