Tasmania’s visitor economy is going from strength to strength, Tourism Tasmania’s Annual Report finds.
Minister for Hospitality and Tourism, Jeremy Rockliff, said that Tasmania’s tourism industry is one of the key pillars of Tasmania’s economy.
“Our tourism industry supports more than 37,300 jobs across the State and it is a critical part of our regional economies,” Premier Rockliff said.
“It’s clear visitors are looking to dive in and discover Tasmania with the new Discover Tasmania App downloaded more than 18,000 times in the first three months (April–July 2023) after it was launched.
“The app is an important tool for visitors to plan and discover more places to visit, things to do and events to attend.
“The Annual Report also showed the State’s tourism and hospitality sector continued to rebuild and thrive during the COVID recovery.
“A key achievement for the year was the launch of a new iteration of the Come Down For Air campaign.
“The successful Off Season program was delivered in key domestic markets, creating a long-term cultural association of a winter holiday in Tasmania in the hearts and minds of Australians.”
Further achievements, highlighted in the report, include:
- Development of Tasmania’s 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy in partnership with industry;
- Increased air capacity to Tasmania ensuring Tasmanians and visitors have affordable and convenient options to get on and off our islands;
- Hosting industry briefings and events across the state and online, attended by over 500 tourism industry operators and stakeholders; and
- Partnering with Vacayit to produce 50 audio guides designed to help blind and low vision visitors plan and enjoy their holiday in Tasmania.
“The continued growth and contribution of the tourism sector is essential to our economy,” the Premier said.
“I extend my thanks to the tourism and hospitality industry for its ongoing contribution to our visitor economy.”
