Disqualified driver arrested behind wheel at Richmond, NSW

A man disqualified from driving until 2024 was arrested behind the wheel in Richmond yesterday.

About 4.30pm Wednesday (28 August 2019), police were called to Lennox Street following reports that a Toyota Hilux was allegedly being driven in an erratic manner.

Police located the vehicle near the intersection of Lennox and Paget streets in Richmond, where the 39-year-old driver was slumped over the steering wheel.

Police observed the driver attempt to restart the vehicle with a screwdriver. He was restrained and arrested.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and conveyed the 39-year-old to Hawkesbury Hospital for medical assessment.

The man remained under police guard in hospital. He has a revocation of parole warrant and is also currently disqualified from driving until 20 October 2024.

The Hilux was confirmed to be an outstanding stolen vehicle from Liberty Plaza Bankstown on Saturday 17 August 2019.

The 39-year-old remains in hospital but is expected to be charged with drive conveyance without consent, drive whilst disqualified, drive manner dangerous and other matters along with revocation of parole warrant.

He is then expected to be transferred to corrective services custody due to the revocation of parole warrant.
