Dog-litter bags to be rolled out in Kingston after successful trial
Free dog-litter bags will soon be available at select dog off-leash parks and reserves across Kingston following a successful 6-month trial of dog-litter dispensers.
Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said as a dog lover she really wants to see Kingston become as dog-friendly as possible.
“My dog Banjo and I love to get exercise at Kingston’s fantastic off-leash areas but it’s important all dog owners do the right thing and pick-up after their pooches, so everyone in the community can enjoy our reserves, parks and beaches, said Cr Oxley. “That’s why we are making it easier for dog owners and will be providing dog-litter bag dispensers at select off-leash parks and reserves across Kingston.”
Council will also look to expand this to other larger, popular dog off-leash reserves.
Council also recently approved plans to fence two popular dog off-leash areas at Roy Dore Reserve in Carrum and Iluka Reserve in Aspendale.
“The fencing is designed to provide better separation between dogs and other park users and is something the community had been asking us for,” Cr Oxley said.
Community consultation was conducted in April and May 2019 with support for both projects especially Roy Dore.
“Along with the new fencing, Council with put in irrigation, bins, seats and a drinking fountain and additional works will be undertaken at Roy Dore to provide a shelter, path networks and garden beds,” said Cr Oxley.
