Drainage improvements at Greenhill Reserve

Wallan’s Greenhill Reserve will receive an important drainage upgrade thanks to funding from the Victorian Government and Mitchell Shire Council.

Victorian Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence was in Wallan on Saturday 30 April to announce $106,666 from the Country Football Netball Program will go towards the $160,000 project.

The oval at Greenhill Reserve will be reshaped to remove the low spots and lateral drainage installed to eliminate the current ponding of water in key sections that limits use.

Greenhill Reserve is home to Wallan Football Netball Club and the Wallan Junior Football Club the second largest senior and junior football club and second largest senior netball club in Mitchell Shire. It is also home to Mitchell’s largest cricket club the Wallan District Cricket Club. More than 700 players and their families use Greenhill Reserve.

The oval is very heavily used, and the current drainage issues mean it cannot be used to its optimum level with serious damage occurring to the playing surface.

Successful initiatives to promote and increase female participation have furthered the need to improve oval availability and sustainability.

This upgrade mitigates drainage issues and ensures the oval can better meet the demand of Wallan’s growing community.
